Is Karma a Property of Reality
or a Human Way of Understanding Consequences?
Every action can leave a trace. BQ004 asks what kind of trace—and whether ordinary causation, moral meaning and trans-life karma describe the same thing.
Question boundary
Karma is not simply
instant cosmic punishment.
The inquiry separates intention, behaviour, ordinary consequences, moral responsibility, rebirth traditions and claims of a universal moral mechanism. Evidence for one layer cannot be silently transferred to another.

Established evidence
Actions can alter bodies, habits, relationships, institutions and ecosystems. Consequences also propagate through memory, reputation, learning and social feedback.
Traditions
Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh thought do not reduce karma to one identical doctrine. Intention, action, consequence, rebirth, grace and liberation receive different emphasis.
Ethical interpretation
Karma can function as a language of responsibility: what we repeatedly think, choose and enact helps shape character and the worlds other beings inherit.
Lived experience
People may interpret meaningful coincidences, recurring patterns or apparent moral returns as karmic. Such testimony can matter without independently proving cosmic causation.
Hypothesis / speculation
A trans-life or universe-wide moral law would require evidence that distinguishes it from chance, selective memory, social causation and retrospective storytelling.

State whether a claim concerns intention, behavioural consequence, social feedback, rebirth or a cosmic moral law.
Pre-register predictions
Specify outcomes that would favour or weaken a proposed mechanism before observing the result.
Test alternatives
Compare karmic interpretations with chance, selection effects, memory bias and ordinary causal pathways.
Preserve ethics
Never use karma to blame people for illness, trauma, poverty or abuse. Compassion and practical help come first.
