Beginning with love

What happens when love feels larger than the individual?

When affection extends towards all beings, the experience can feel spacious, blissful and without boundaries. My own phrase for this is “blissful toroidal love”: love felt as an unfolding circulation of receiving, opening, giving and returning.

What relationship might connect the spiritual Heart, our bodily rhythms and the experience of belonging?

I offer this as a description of experience and an artistic metaphor. I approach the inquiry as a humble student, with room for wonder, careful investigation and the possibility that a first explanation may need to change.

“Ancient sources–2026” describes the exploration’s broad historical scope. It does not imply an uninterrupted scientific record or that every tradition teaches the same thing.

An open heart, a living tradition

Aghor: recognising the divine throughout life

Popular portrayals of Aghoris often emphasise cremation grounds, taboo-breaking and extraordinary practices. The Aghor Foundation in Varanasi offers a broader account: freedom from fear, discrimination and duality, recognition of the divine throughout existence, disciplined living and service.

The Foundation connects its lineage with Baba Kinaram and describes Aghoreshwar Bhagwan Ram (1937–1992) as a teacher who joined spiritual practice with social responsibility. This is a living lineage’s understanding of itself; sensational stories cannot stand for every practitioner.

Ramana Maharshi: the spiritual Heart

Ramana’s teachings describe the spiritual Heart as the Self and the source of the sense of “I”. Self-enquiry directs attention towards that source. His teachings distinguish this Heart from the physical organ.

A cardiac measurement addresses a bodily process; this enquiry addresses self and awareness. We can explore their relationship while attending to the different meanings of “heart”.

Aghor, Advaita Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism and Buddhist mettā deserve to be encountered in their own terms. Shared language can invite conversation without erasing differences. Here, mettā-awareness is an exploratory AkashicNET expression: noticing experience with loving-kindness towards ourselves and other beings.

Reading extraordinary accounts carefully

A recorded teaching, a disciple’s recollection, an autobiography and a controlled experiment offer different kinds of evidence. A historical account establishes that a claim was recorded; establishing the event itself requires further corroboration.

The response that prompted this discussion referred to Robert E. Svoboda’s accounts of his teacher Vimalananda. Specific passages need checking against the relevant editions before quoting exact words or presenting reported experiences as independently verified.

Who recorded an account? How close were they to the event? Is the passage literal, symbolic, devotional or open to several readings? Respectful reading includes both listening and asking.

03 · Measurement and interpretation

The measurable heart

The physical heart produces electrical and magnetic activity. HeartMath describes measuring cardiac magnetic fields with sensitive SQUID magnetometers, including detection several feet from the body.

Its research programme reports cardiac-related signals in recordings taken from another person, particularly during touch, and observations of physiological synchronisation. Its discussion identifies skin conduction as an important contributor in contact experiments and proposes electromagnetic communication as an explanation for some findings.

1. Can an instrument detect a cardiac signal?
2. Does another person’s physiology respond to it?
3. Can that person consciously identify information carried by it?
4. Does this explain an experience of love or connection?

Evidence addressing the first question does not automatically settle the others. A cardiac signal appearing in an EEG recording does not, by itself, show that the brain decoded another person’s emotional state.

What does “toroidal love” describe?

For me, the torus offers a visual language for the felt movement of love. A physical claim about field geometry needs spatial measurements and a suitable model. A claim that a field carries emotional information needs a definition of that information and a test of its reception.

“Unified field of love” can express a spiritual intuition or poetic vision. Treating it as a physical theory would require additional definitions and evidence. The significance of an experience and the accuracy of an explanation are questions we can examine separately.

05 · The big question · Unresolved

What would move the inquiry forward?

The broader Grok response mentioned distant intention, anomalous cognition and long-distance synchronisation, but its incomplete reference markers were insufficient to verify its numerical and distance-related claims. Those claims are not adopted here.

Can compassionate states enable people to receive information or influence others beyond recognised sensory communication?

A useful study would define the task with practitioners, prevent ordinary information transfer, use blinded scoring and specify its analysis in advance. A proposed electromagnetic mechanism would also need relevant field measurements and appropriate controls. Independent replication would test whether a finding persists beyond one team or setting.

06 · From experience to care

Let love become something we do.

In my own experience, cacao and temazcal ceremonies can feel deeply heart-opening. That is personal testimony. Understanding such experiences could involve ritual, attention, bodily sensation, community, expectation and personal meaning.

What changed? How long did it last? Did it help me listen, forgive or act with care?

The question I return to is how an expansive experience becomes something another person can receive: patience, kindness, practical help or a willingness to listen.
