Choose the immediate need
Pause, reduce stimulation, move somewhere physically safe, avoid driving and ask a trusted sober person to stay with you.
Do not add more substances. Hydrate normally, breathe slowly and seek medical help for chest pain, seizure, collapse, severe overheating, dangerous confusion or loss of consciousness.
Listen without judgement, ask directly about immediate safety and connect with qualified support. Spiritual meaning and clinical care can coexist.
Protect consent, privacy and dignity. Moderators and peers can support and signpost, but should not diagnose or manage emergencies alone.
Care principles
Care does not require agreement, abstinence, belief or a perfect explanation before help is offered.
Focus first on immediate risks: unsafe setting, mixing substances, isolation, overheating, dehydration, impaired driving or delayed medical care.
A powerful experience deserves respect. Its interpretation can remain open while safety needs are addressed.
Use calm choices, informed consent and the least coercive safe response. Escalate when someone cannot remain safe.
Adapted from long-running r/NeuronsToNirvana and r/microdosing moderation practice: be respectful and kind; distinguish personal experience from medical advice; prohibit sourcing and vendor promotion; check local law; favour current research and harm reduction; remember there is a person behind every post.
A simple peer-support sequence
CONNECT Introduce yourself, listen and reduce shame.
CALM Lower stimulation and support slow breathing without restraining the person.
CHECK Ask what was taken, when, immediate symptoms, medical conditions and whether anyone is at risk.
CARE Stay present, contact professional help when needed and follow up after the immediate situation.
