CASE REPORT + PUBLISHED DISPUTE · HISTORICAL RESEARCH

James Leininger: Keep the Disagreement Visible

Tucker’s 2016 case-report abstract describes correspondences with pilot James Huston and an unaired parent interview recorded before identification. That is documentation of attributed statements; it is not a controlled exclusion of ordinary information access.

Sudduth’s re-examination challenges the chronology, exposure history and reliability of the narrative. Tucker’s response disputes that assessment; Sudduth’s reply continues the disagreement.

One concrete issue: Tucker’s reply acknowledges that Huston died flying an FM-2, rather than a Corsair, while arguing that the reported Corsair statement remains partly accurate because Huston had flown one. How a match is scored matters. See the reply, pp. 85–86.

Assessment: a disputed case worth examining item by item. Before-identification documentation and before-exposure documentation answer different questions. Neither a favourable account nor a critical interpretation is independently adjudicated here.

Reading scope: 2016 abstract, criticism and reply publisher pages, and selected pages of Tucker’s seven-page response. Complete case files, original recordings and the full critical exchange remain to audit. The critique belongs to the 2021 journal volume; its landing page records publication on 15 January 2022.

SELECTED CASE SERIES · PRIMARY TEXT ACCESSED AS A REPRINT

Birthmarks: Correspondence Needs a Comparison

Stevenson’s 1993 paper reports 210 investigated cases involving attributed birthmarks or birth defects. Medical documents were available for 49; 43 were judged to show satisfactory correspondence and six were not. Those denominators describe selected cases, not a population success rate or a probability of reincarnation. Read the paper as reproduced on Carol Bowman’s site ↗

Assessment: an independent medical record can constrain recollection about an injury. It does not alone establish the causal origin of a child’s mark. The appropriate comparison requires predefined matching rules, masked assessors, plausible alternative deceased persons and documentation of unsuccessful matches.

Reading scope: abstract and selected methods and results of the reproduced primary text. The original institutional PDF could not be retrieved during this check; reprint fidelity, original medical records and case selection have not been independently authenticated. No photographs are reproduced. Historical statements about medical knowledge are not current medical guidance.

FAMILY TESTIMONY · OUTCOME AND EXPLANATION KEPT SEPARATE

Feeling Better and Remembering Accurately

The first two episode descriptions report improvements after children discussed apparent memories. These remain attributed family accounts in this review. They do not establish a treatment effect, its mechanism or a previous-life identity.

A stronger outcome study would record symptoms prospectively, document other care and natural change, and use suitable comparison conditions. Historical accuracy needs a separate investigation. Spontaneous childhood accounts also require different assessment from narratives elicited through hypnotic regression.
