MECHANISM ≠ MEANING

Scientific inquiry uses systematic observation, measurement, modelling, replication, criticism and revision. Relevant mechanisms may include attention, predictive processing, rhythmic entrainment, social synchronisation, altered states, memory, meaning-making, contextual effects and group cohesion.

A neurological or psychological description does not automatically explain an experience’s cultural or spiritual meaning. A spiritual interpretation does not constitute scientific evidence for its mechanism.

Sikh seva is one example of a tradition placing service, equality and community at the centre of spiritual life. Sikhism remains a distinct tradition—not a version of Buddhism, Hinduism or another path.
