Love Gives Us Room To Grow
Friendship, Freedom & Becoming Ourselves

Room To Be Ourselves
Perhaps, as we grow older, we begin to recognise love by how freely we can breathe in its presence. We feel able to speak honestly, to be quiet, to change our minds, and to admit that we are still finding our way.
There is tenderness in being loved without having to make ourselves smaller. Someone can care deeply about us while allowing our life to unfold in ways they would never have chosen for themselves. That takes trust, especially when closeness makes us afraid of losing one another.
Such love still asks something of us. Freedom needs the companionship of care: listening, keeping our word, acknowledging hurt, and respecting the boundaries that allow both people to remain whole. A dependable presence makes room for difficult conversations as well as joy.
The passage also invites a quieter question: do I offer others the freedom I hope to receive? Can I welcome their growth when it changes our relationship? Can I celebrate a happiness in which I am not always the centre?
Perhaps friendship matures into this generous wish:
May you become more fully yourself, and may you know you have someone beside you whom you can trust.
