From Wonder
to Wisdom
Consciousness, compassion and the psi question.
What if an experience of connection becomes a commitment to care? A meeting place for neuroscience, non-dual inquiry, philosophical possibilities and honest uncertainty.

Define Before We Explain
Experience, Awareness and Non-Dual Understanding
Here, consciousness means subjective experience: whether there is something it feels like to be a system. Awareness can name that experiencing itself, or more specifically the noticing of a sensation, thought or surrounding world. Definitions must stay visible when a discussion moves between these meanings.
In a non-dual account, experience need not be organised around a sharply separate observer looking at an external object. Josipovic describes a form of awareness without habitual subject–object fragmentation. This is one contemplative and theoretical account, not a definition accepted by every researcher. [6]
Experience
What is felt or noticed?
First-person descriptionUnderstanding
How is the experience interpreted?
Conceptual or contemplative accountExplanation
Which observations distinguish possible causes?
Research questionAn experience of unity can be personally significant without establishing that all minds are one mind. The distinction preserves room for both contemplation and investigation.
A Panpsychist Possibility
Panpsychism places mentality or experience among the fundamental features of reality. Some versions propose elementary experience at the level of basic constituents. This does not mean that every object thinks, loves or knows as a human does.
A central challenge for constituent-based versions is the combination problem: how would elementary experiences constitute the unified experience of a person? Chalmers examines this difficulty. Panpsychism is a philosophical proposal; it does not by itself establish telepathy, benevolence or a mechanism of wavefunction collapse. [7]
AkashicNET welcomes it as a lens for inquiry while leaving competing accounts open. Non-dual experience and panpsychist metaphysics can be discussed together, but neither automatically proves the other.
A Wider Contemplative Perspective
Boundless Awareness, Grounded Compassion
Here, boundless awareness names an orientation towards openness: making room for experience beyond our usual self-focused stories, categories and assumptions. It can hold sensations, thoughts, emotions, relationships and the living world without rushing to reduce them to one explanation.
Let awareness widen beyond the familiar story of “me”. Make room for other perspectives, other beings and what remains unknown. Let wisdom question our interpretations, and let compassion guide our response.
Widen Awareness
Notice what a familiar viewpoint leaves out. Include another person’s perspective and the wider living context.
Deepen Understanding
Hold an interpretation lightly enough to question it. Openness includes acknowledging what we do not know.
Embody Compassion
Let a wider perspective become attentive listening, appropriate boundaries and practical care.
Widen awareness. Deepen understanding. Embody compassion.
“Boundless” expresses a contemplative aspiration, not unlimited knowledge or an established scientific claim about cosmic consciousness. It does not require agreement with panpsychism or any single physical theory.
Four Questions · Four Evidence Tracks
From Feeling Connected to Knowing What Changed
This visual map separates questions that are often combined. The cards are not stages of a proven causal chain.
“I Felt Connected”
Describe the experience before explaining it. Qualitative DMT research records experiences interpreted as intuitive or telepathic communication. That documents what was reported, not independently verified contact or transfer of information. [3]
What Would Help?
Contemporaneous accounts, clear questions and explicit separation of observation from later interpretation.
“Connection Lasted”
A prospective study of psychedelic group settings associated feelings of togetherness with later self-reported wellbeing and social connectedness. Its naturalistic design does not establish that the substance alone caused the changes, or that participants became wiser. [2]
What Would Help?
Follow-up over time, comparison groups, behavioural measures and reports from others, alongside adverse or absent changes.
“A Process Changed”
Repeated brain imaging in healthy adults found substantial changes in functional connectivity under psilocybin, with some changes persisting afterwards. These findings concern brain-network dynamics; they do not identify quantum collapse or prove a cosmic connection. [1]
What Would Help?
A mechanism must predict specific observations and survive comparison with alternative neural and psychological explanations.
“I Knew Something Hidden”
A psi claim adds an independently checkable claim about information unavailable through ordinary means. A major transparent replication of a particular precognition task found 49.89% correct guesses against 50% chance. It was not a psychedelic study and does not decide every psi claim. [4]
What Would Help?
Predefined targets and scoring, effective blinding, controls against information leakage, a registered analysis and independent replication. Include misses and null findings.
Meaning can motivate a question. Evidence determines which explanation that question can support.
Beyond One Theory
What Would a Physical Mechanism Need to Explain?
A physical explanation need not begin with quantum collapse. Brain-network dynamics, molecular processes, bodily regulation and social context pose questions at different levels. Some of those levels can be complementary. A proposed quantum mechanism would need to explain observations that justify that additional account.
Orch OR links organised quantum processes in microtubules with proposed objective reduction and conscious moments. It does not establish that psychedelic love, wisdom or reported psi arise through that mechanism. Those connections would need their own predictions and evidence. [5]
| Proposal | What It Must Explain | What Does Not Follow Automatically |
|---|---|---|
| Neural or biological mechanism | Which processes change experience, under which conditions? | A brain correlate alone does not settle why experience exists. |
| Orch OR | Relevant quantum states, reduction dynamics and their connection to conscious states. | Quantum behaviour alone does not establish love or anomalous knowing. |
| Panpsychist account | How fundamental experience relates to the organised experience of a person. | Fundamentality does not establish communication between minds. |
| Non-dual account | How awareness is described or recognised without subject–object division. | A description of experience does not select a unique physical theory. |
This is an editorial comparison of explanatory tasks, not a ranking or an exhaustive survey of consciousness theories. See sources [1], [5], [6] and [7].
Language, Cognitive Styles and AI
The Mirror and the Meaning
When an AI agrees with us, have we gained evidence, or heard our own framing returned fluently?
Language-based assistants respond to the wording and context they receive. Research on sycophancy identifies cases in which models favour agreement with a user’s view over accuracy. That makes fluent affirmation a poor substitute for independent corroboration. The pattern is a failure mode, not a claim that every response is designed to flatter. [8]
AI is broader than language models: systems can also process images, sound and actions. Likewise, human descriptions can begin with words, images, movement, bodily sensation or a felt relationship. This page does not rank those modes or treat people as fixed cognitive types.
The mirror is a metaphor for how a conversation can reflect its framing. Language can clarify experience, but leading questions and repeated assumptions can also shape an interpretation. A shared vocabulary is not proof of a shared inner experience.
A Better Question for an AI
“Separate what I experienced from what I inferred. Show the strongest alternative explanation, identify independent evidence, and tell me what would change the conclusion.”
This is a prompt for critical inquiry, not a guarantee of accuracy. The same standard applies to this AI-assisted page.
AkashicNET’s Ethical Proposal
Let Wisdom Be Visible in What We Do
For this reflection, love means care that respects another being’s dignity. Wisdom means discernment, openness to correction and attention to consequences. These are proposed working values, not measurements supplied by a psychedelic experience.
Compassion
Does the insight support listening, kindness and appropriate boundaries?
Discernment
Can it remain open to uncertainty and disagreement?
Service
Does it become repair, care or a useful action in ordinary life?
A meaningful experience can matter even if its first explanation changes. Benefits in selected research settings do not promise benefit for everyone. This page is an inquiry and reflection, not a treatment recommendation or an invitation to use a substance.
The same principle applies to artificial systems. Demonstrated competence, possible consciousness and compassionate conduct are separate questions. AkashicNET’s proposed AI position prioritises accountable human control and a separate assessment of possible welfare.

Closing Reflection · Contemplative Writing
Bring the Wonder Home
We can allow an experience to move us without asking it to answer every question about the universe. A moment of unity may invite tenderness. An intuition may open an investigation. Neither needs to become certainty before we can respond with care.
The harder practice begins in ordinary life: listening when we disagree, admitting a mistake, honouring a boundary, tending a relationship and helping without demanding recognition. In this Bodhisattva-inspired ethic, the question is whether our next thought, word or action can ease suffering.
Let awareness widen, the mind remain curious, the heart remain open and our claims remain answerable to evidence. A wider perspective makes room for another person’s experience without assuming that we already understand it. If consciousness is more widespread than we understand, care will still matter. If a cherished explanation changes, compassion need not disappear with it.
May wonder deepen our attention.
May wisdom guide our love.
May love become something we do.
