One of the first people I met at the welcome dessert on the Paradise Point terrace on Sunday, 11 October, was a presenter from Tuesday’s concurrent session covering near-death experiences. That session was already on my recommendation list.
For me, a synchronicity: a meaningful coincidence connecting an unexpected meeting with a session I had already hoped to attend. A conference programme became a personal connection. 🦋

#948 · Narrative analysis
The structure of human conscious experience beyond the body: a large-scale phenomenological analysis of OBE narratives
An analysis of 1,064 OBE reports, with AI coding checked against human ratings. A strong starting point for documenting unusual experience and building reusable research codebooks. It maps reported experiences; it does not establish consciousness leaving the body.
A question to bring: Could your codebook be reused in a public, provenance-tracked research library?

Shared Neurobiological and Computational Mechanisms of Psychedelic, Contemplative, and Fasting-Induced Mystical Experience
A proposed shared framework for mystical experiences across psychedelics, meditation and fasting. Relevant to comparing pathways into altered states, while keeping proposed mechanisms distinct from demonstrated findings.
A question to bring: Which prediction would most clearly distinguish this framework from existing explanations?
Read the official abstract ↗#793 · Cross-sectional survey
Impacts of Intense Meditation-Related Experiences (IMREs) on Identity, Self-Narrative, and Meaning Making: A Cross-Sectional Survey
Of 1,804 meditators surveyed, 1,063 reported intense meditation-related experiences. A useful conversation about identity, integration and how experiences can be appraised as both helpful and harmful. Associations do not establish causation.
A question to bring: What helps researchers distinguish a meaningful reinterpretation from a measurable improvement in wellbeing?
Read the official abstract ↗#788 · Preliminary pilot
Anomalous Communication: A Breakthrough Testing Methodology Using AI
Blinded scoring of mediumship statements against AI-generated comparison statements. Particularly relevant to anomalous-information research and transparent testing. The abstract reports preliminary findings without claiming a particular explanation.
A question to bring: How are comparison statements matched for plausibility, and how is information leakage prevented?
Read the official abstract ↗#850 · Research programme proposal
Toward a Systematic Science of Extreme Consciousness: Integrating Phenomenology, Physiology, and Artificial Intelligence
A planned programme combining first-person reports, physiological measurements and AI analysis, with an open research platform as a long-term aim. A promising discussion about data standards and collaboration; this presentation introduces planned methods and infrastructure.
A question to bring: What is operational already, and could an independent citizen-science project contribute?
Read the official abstract ↗#717 · Practice-informed argument
Dancing on the edge: Accessing altered states of consciousness and therapeutic processes through butoh
A neuroscientist and dance/movement therapist explores butoh, embodied awareness and altered states. Resonates with inquiry into dance and consciousness, while recognising that butoh is a distinct practice from psytrance.
A question to bring: Which changes in awareness could be studied across different dance practices without assuming they are equivalent?
