What can we learn by studying channeling, and how do we distinguish an experience from an explanation of its source?

Book · Research Discussion, Interpretation & Experience

A Starting Point for Inquiry

Wahbeh combines discussion of channeling research with personal experience and practical exercises. This companion offers questions for reading her account critically and openly; it is not a completed review of every study cited in the book.

The date in brackets identifies the book’s publication, not a new research result. Paperback ISBN: 9781684037155.

AkashicNET Evidence Lens

Experience, Measurement and Explanation

Empirical research: descriptions of experience and physiological measurements can be investigated. A change in brain activity alone does not identify an external source of information or establish a paranormal mechanism.

Spiritual interpretation: a receiver or filter account offers a possible way to interpret experience. It needs distinct, testable predictions to be compared with other explanations.

Personal and channelled testimony: accounts may carry meaning for the speaker. Their meaning, factual accuracy and claimed source are separate questions.

Review status: this page does not yet provide a study-by-study assessment. Sample sizes, controls, preregistration, effect sizes, uncertainty and independent replication must be recorded from original papers before conclusions are graded.

Questions to Carry Through the Book

  1. What was experienced, and what was independently measured?
  2. What would distinguish the proposed explanation from expectation, imagination, prior knowledge, information leakage or chance?
  3. Are unsuccessful attempts and null findings included?
  4. Have independent teams reproduced the relevant finding?
  5. Can we respect an experience’s personal meaning while keeping its explanation open?
How this companion can grow
